The sector in question is a 26km stretch of tracks which will link Bang Sue Station and the northern zone of Rangsit. The line will be one-metre gauge, elevated and will have another 10 stations along its length.
The JIGA loan will be used to build the line’s infrastructure and will be allocated to the likes of the overhead tracks and supports, service depots and passenger stations. This loan is the third the JIGA has granted to enable Thai authorities to improve transport options for the 10 million strong population of Bangkok.
The two combined loans were worth a little over JPY100 billion (THB34.5 billion) and were endorsed in 2009 and 2015. An estimate of the Dark Red Line’s ridership has forecast daily numbers of 123,000 when it opens in 2020 and almost 200,000 a day a decade later.
Bang Sue will be a transport hub and allow passengers to transfer between Blue and Red line trains and intercity buses. 12GO ASIA offers reservations services for intercity buses departing from Bangkok’s Morchit, Ekkamai and Sai Tai Kao Southern terminals.
