Suvarnabhumi Airport Rail Link unveils revamped carriages

Thai dignitaries attended ceremonies yesterday at which a revamped Suvarnabhumi Airport Rail Link train was returned to service. The interiors of the three-carriage train have been given new floors, extra seats and more grab rails for standing travellers.

The train was a designated Express Line unit and the first of the four of this class to be given a makeover. The refurbishment of the other three is scheduled to be completed by year’s end. Once this is done, the daily passenger capacity for the four trains will increase from 60,000 to 72,000.

The Rail Link runs between Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport and Phaya Thai and stops at six other stations en route. Express Line services used to do the journey non-stop, but due to low passenger usage these trains have been reassigned to the standard City class.

Phaya Thai Station is quite a long way from Bangkok districts such as Khao San Road, Silom and Sukhumvit and passengers still have to get taxis, metros or buses to their final destinations. 12GO ASIA provides reservations services for taxis and mini-buses which cut out the need to change transportation mid-journey.
