The festival is taking place in the Yaowarat Chinatown District of Bangkok and will run through until the weekend. Sweets, noodle soups, satay and sausages sold at stalls in the district are strictly vegan as they are made without meat, poultry products or fish.
The optimum time to arrive is around 17:00 as the heat of the day has receded and it gives just enough to sample the delicacies on offer before the start of the opera shows. These run for an hour from 18:00 and are staged on Charoen Krung Road’s Soi 20.
Wat Traimit and the anniversary archway which marks the official entry point to Chinatown are 10 minutes on foot, less in a taxi or tuktuk, from Hua Lamphong Railway Station. Tourists heading into Bangkok are able to buy train tickets from destinations all over the country via the easy to use 12GO ASIA portal.
