Bangkok culture centre to stage the opera Carmen tonight

Performing arts aficionados in Bangkok have the rare opportunity of seeing Russia’s Helikon Opera perform Carmen this evening. The venue for the acclaimed operatic performance is the main hall at the Thailand Cultural Centre in the Huai Khwang District of the city.

The show begins at 19:30 and doors are open 30 minutes beforehand. Although Georges Bizet wrote Carmen as a four-act opera, the Helikon production is two acts. The first is 1 hour 15 minutes long and the second is 49 minutes. A 20-minute break separates the two acts.

Since its debut, Carmen has been an enduringly popular Helikon show. It has toured the world and been staged in all the major opera houses including those in Rome, Paris, London and New York. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the production winning two highly-coveted Russian National Theatre Awards.

A few tickets for Carmen in Bangkok are still available and can be purchased on the ThaiTicketMajor website. The performance is one of a number of high profile shows being staged as part the 18th Bangkok International Festival of Dance and Music.

On Thursday, the Israel Camerata Orchestra Jerusalem is due on stage and will be followed by Ballet du Grand Theatre de Geneve’s rendition of Tristan And Isolde on Saturday. People travelling to Bangkok for the shows will find 12GO ASIA’s ticketing service the easiest option.
