Thousands get on their bikes for Bangkok car free rally

Authorities in Bangkok say up to 20,000 cyclists joined a rally to mark ‘Leave the Car at Home Day’ in the city yesterday. Participants pedalled a route around the historic Rattanakosin Island area of the Thai capital.

The route was nine kilometres long and was undertaken as a reminder to car owners that their chosen form of transport is environmentally unfriendly and clogs up streets. Organisers say motorists should change to cycling, walking and public transport.

As well as the rally, the day featured live musicians and entertainment plus a cycle endurance contest.  The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration arranged the event in collaboration with representatives from foreign embassies based in the city.

Bangkok’s annual events calendar is truly eclectic nowadays. Cultural shows, Songkran Water Festival and the Thailand International Kite Festival are among highlights. The 18th International Festival of Dance and Music has already begun and top international artistes such as Queen and Morrissey are due in the near future.

When travelling to Bangkok from other parts of Thailand or neighbouring nations it pays to choose the best when sourcing tickets. 12GO ASIA can take care of all your travel needs with a one-stop online reserve and purchase service.
