Hanoi to extend nightlife entertainment hours past midnight

Local authorities in Hanoi say they are about to change regulations  to allow bars and restaurants to stay open after midnight. People’s Committee chairperson Nguyen Duc Chung said the extension will be enacted so that residents and tourists will be able to enjoy nightlife to the full.

Current regulations in place in the Vietnamese capital stipulate that all restaurants, pubs, nightclubs and karaoke lounges must close at midnight. The only exemptions are bars and nightlife venues in luxury hotels. These are usually permitted to keep serving until 02.00.

Nguyen Duc Chung explained that for many of the city’s overseas visitors midnight is only halfway through their evening out. He added that this was one of the principal factors behind the decision to relax the licensing laws.

He finished off by saying that although the hours will be lengthened, there will be some restrictions on which Hanoi districts will be permitted to license late opening hostelries and also checks to ensure no under-age drinkers are being allowed in.

Hanoi’s  tourism draws are abundant and range from gourmet cuisine and nightlife to suit all tastes to world-class museums and the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum. 12GO ASIA sells train and aeroplane tickets for services between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
