Thai tourism bureau to promote Khon Kaen as northeast travel hub

Thailand’s national tourism agency has devised a plan to promote Khon Kaen as a hub for travel in the northeast region of the nation. Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) governor Yuthasak Supasorn explained that the city is in a prime location in the region and has plenty of attractions to draw in visitors.

The governor carried on by saying Khon Kaen also boasted good conference facilities and transport infrastructure and would therefore be a good option for business travellers. He noted that positioning Khon Kaen at the forefront of the TAT campaign could increase current visitor numbers of 3.8 million by up to one third.

Mr Supasorn noted that the city’s brand-new MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions) centre was due to open its doors next year. He added that the centre would be able to accommodate 7,000 delegates and complement existing venues which have made the city the top choice for organisers of academic and business functions.

Tourism attractions are diverse and highlights include Rim Bueng Market, the nine-tiered Phra Mahathat Kaen Nakhon chedi, Phu Wiang Dinosaur Museum and a top quality zoo. Khon Kaen is served by intercity trains and buses and has a small airport. 12GO ASIA provides choice when buying travel tickets to Khon Kaen.
