Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security (MSDHS) and the Faculty of Architecture at Chulalongkorn University are coordinating the improvements. MSDHS minister Adul Sangsingkeo chaired the meeting at which representatives of the agencies thrashed out a plan of action.
He explained that the meeting was called following complaints from members of the public, and also disabled and older citizens, that they could not get to the park easily. Mr Sangsingkeo finished off by saying that the finished project would conform to global standards on public access for the disabled and elderly.
A former royal estate, Lumpini Park was established in the 1920s and is now an oasis of green and serenity set amid the urban sprawl of modern Bangkok. Among its features are exercise facilities, a boating lake and children’s playgrounds.
