Rapid bus system to link Bangkok transport hubs

Thailand’s transport policy agency has proposed a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system to connect two Bangkok transportation hubs. The Office of Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning (OTP) says a BRT link from Bang Sue Train Station to the Phaholyothin Transportation Centre would be a boon for travellers.

OTP has already staged public discussions on the impact of the 10km-long BRT and is set to submit it for cabinet approval later this month. If it gets the green light, the system will incorporate 16 stations including the termini at Bang Sue and Phaholyothin.

The initial proposal also recommends the construction of an aerial walkway which will link the BRT to the subway stations of Chatuchak and Bang Sue as well as Mo Chit BTS Skytrain Station. The estimated cost of the BRT is THB 1.8 billion. With the addition of the 1.3km walkway, the cost would increase to THB3.3 billion.

The planned Phaholyothin centre will be a major transport interchange once finished while Bang Sue will be the hub for State Railway of Thailand (SRT) trains once the move from Hua Lamphong is completed in a few years time. 12GO ASIA is a logical outlet when sourcing SRT and intercity bus tickets for travel in Thailand.
