Pattaya marathon runners to line up for early start on Sunday

The first runners in Sunday’s King’s Cup Pattaya Marathon are set for a very early start. Runners who have entered for the full 42km marathon will sprint away from the start line on Beach Road at 03:30 in the morning.

The start times for the other four categories have been staggered to avoid congestion. Half-marathon entrants will start at 05:10 while those entering the wheelchair quarter marathon will leave 20 minutes later. Quarter-marathon runners will start at 05:45 and those on the 3.70km micro-marathon will be able to have a lie-in as they don't set out until 06:30.

The Pattaya Marathon has evolved into an increasingly popular event since its launch around the turn of the millennium. Runners roughly follow the contours of Pattaya Bay and on to Jomtien Beach and back again on the routes for each category. Thousands of spectators usually turn out to watch the runners. This is especially so at the start and finish lines on Beach Road.

The first five competitors in each category to cross the finish line will receive a trophy and other prizes. People still wishing to enter can do this on the Pattaya Marathon website. 12GO ASIA’s ticketing service provides convenience for runners and spectators travelling to Pattaya this weekend.
