Combo ticket for Bangkok suburban trains set for year end launch

A combination ticket for use on all urban trains in Bangkok is due to be released before the end of 2016. The Thailand Office of Transport and Traffic Planning (OTTP) says the necessary infrastructure and programming has already been implemented to enable Bangkok tourists and commuters to use the combo tickets.

OTTP boss Chaiwat Thongkamkhun explained that the body in charge of setting up the clearing house to distribute income derived from the tickets had given the green light for the launch. He carried on by saying the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand would conduct preliminary trails on the system from August onwards.

The new travel cards have been christened mangmoom. This word translates into English as spider. Spider cards will provide travellers with one-entry access to the two BTS Skytrain lines, subway trains, the soon-to-launch Purple Line and Suwannabhumi Airport Link services.

Bangkok’s urban trains link Hua Lamphong Railway Station and Ekkamai Bus Station.  12GO ASIA offers a ticketing service for intercity buses and trains departing from these two stations plus from Morchit and the Southern (Tai) bus stations.
