The trio are 30 months old and comprise two females and one male. They will be on display in the Tiger arena and the public have been invited to join a contest to choose names for them.
White lions hail from South Africa and due to their rarity they are regarded as divine creatures. There are few white lions still left in the wild and most are residents of zoos.
Songkhla is in the south of Thailand and home to numerous Muslim communities. As the zoo is one of only a few such facilities in this part of the country, it is a popular destination for Muslims at holidaytime. The official unveiling day for the lions on 7 July is also Hari Raya Aidilfitri. This day marks the end of the one-month fasting period of Ramadan for Muslims.

Keepers at Songkhla Zoo are busy preparing the facility’s new inmates for their public debut. The trio of rare white lions recently arrived from Ubon Ratchathani Zoo and are due to be showcased at Songkhla on 7 July.
