Phitsanulok temple unearths historic chapel

Religious authorities in the Thai town of Phitsanulok have just announced the discovery of a long disused historic chapel. The abbot of Wat Nam Pad Temple says the chapel was built according to the designs of yesteryear and has no support beams and features some amazing artwork.

Phra Ahikarn Somchai continued by saying that the chapel has become somewhat dilapidated and urgently needs a support structure to ensure it does not collapse. He continued by saying he had already contacted the national Department of Fine Arts for help and funding to ensure the structure is preserved for posterity.

Abbot Ahikarn Somchai continued by saying the building was at least a century old and its inner walls were covered in murals depicting Buddhist and historical legends. He finished off by saying local residents had covered the chapel’s roof as it was leaking and shored up the walls with metal supports.

Nam Pad Temple is in Phitsanulok’s Neon Maprang District and a few kilometres from the town centre. Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat is the town’s best known temple.  Phitsanulok is also a practical base for exploring the UNESCO temple ruins at Sukhothai. 12GO ASIA sells travel tickets to both of these destinations.
