Krabi environment group sources new hot springs in wildlife preserve

Environmentalists in southwest Thailand say they have found a trio of new hot springs at a wildlife preserve in Krabi Province. Niwat Wattanayomnaporn is a member of the local Environmental and Cultural Conservation committee and he told reporters the springs were in the Khao Pra Bang Khram Wildlife Preserve.

He explained that the trio are about 10 meters from each other and had latent temperatures measured at 40°C. The park is around 60kms from Krabi Town and is a part of Khlong Tom District. The area was volcanic in pre-historic times and has a number of other hot springs.

Mr Wattanayomnaporn noted that what made the newly discovered geysers different from the other ones in the locale was the fact they were in close proximity to Khlong Khao Kao. This waterway is one of the feeder channels for the freshwater Emerald Pool.

The pool is known as Sa Morakot to Thais and is a beautiful sight and ideal for a swim on a hot day. Many visitors to the area combine hikes with bathing in the hot springs and a dip at Sa Morakot.
