Thai tourism bureau joins forces with China Baidu online search engine

The Tourism Authority of Thailand has agreed terms with a leading Chinese online services provider to market the nation’s bountiful attractions. TAT’s new partner is Baidu International and the operator of the most widely used internet search engine in China.

Yuthasak Supasorn, the governor of the TAT, met Baidu manager Hu Yong last week to officially sign the declaration of intent. The collaboration will see Baidu promote all things Thai to the online Chinese community through its internet portals and via search results.

The two main spheres will be Thai tourism draws and monuments, and news releases from TAT. At the same ceremony, Baidu inaugurated the overseas version of Baidu Map. The app is designed to smooth the way for Chinese travellers when they visit Thailand and other popular destinations worldwide.

The GPS feature of Baidu Map is Thai-script enabled and is able to generate addresses of attractions, restaurants, shopping centres and nightlife zones in both Chinese and Thai. The app has all the information about sightseeing, dining, transport options and shopping in Chinese that visitors from the country are likely to need.
