Incoming Pattaya police commander vows tourist safety is a priority

The new commander of Pattaya’s police force says the safety and security of tourists is the highest priority. Police colonel Apichai Klobpetch made the vow last week just four days after stepping into his new job.

The colonel explained that his officers would mount a three-pronged assault with a view to wiping out crime, improving safety on the roads of the seaside town and more timely police responses. He noted that the main concern was ensuring the wellbeing of tourists and their belongings.

When asked if he was intimidated by Pattaya’s reputation as party town extraordinaire and its crime rate, colonel Klobpetch said he planned to instil morale into his officers. He added that he would ensure they had the power to police the town effectively.

In keeping with the aim of maintaining a highly visible police presence, the colonel and his team went on a tour of Pattaya’s massage parlours. He said afterwards that the proprietors of the parlours were complying with laws, but warned that any contraventions would result in stiff penalties.
