The location of the crossing has already been agreed. It faces Non Mak Mun District in Thailand’s Sa Kaeo Province. Banteay Meanchey’s development office says improvements to infrastructure on the Cambodian side of the frontier are almost finished.
Spokesperson Cheoun Krai Yong said the improvements included building a road to the border. He noted that all that was needed was for Sa Kaeo to build its road and the link would be complete.
Establishing the 43rd-frontier-marker border crossing is the result of a meeting between the Thai and Cambodian interior ministers last August. During the discussions, the two agreed to open at least one more border crossing to facilitate trade and tourism between the neighbouring nations.
The two countries have a common border 800kms long. There are six official crossings which international tourists can use to travel between the two countries. These include the popular Aranyaprathet-Poipet and Hat Lek-Koh Kong checkpoints.
