Ho Chi Minh memorial unveiled in eastern Thai town of Nakhon Phanom

Dignitaries from Thailand and Vietnam jointly presided over the inauguration of a memorial to Ho Chi Minh in a remote Thai town. Vietnam Central Committee leader Nguyen Van Nen headed up the party from Hanoi at the ceremony in Nakhon Phanom.

The memorial is a fitting testament to the 126th anniversary of the revolutionary hero and former Vietnamese national leader’s birth and his connections with the Thai town. It also marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of Thai-Vietnamese diplomatic relations.

Ho Chi Minh spent a good part of the 1920s in Nakhon Phanom while plotting the communist revolution which eventually shaped modern Vietnam. The Ban Na Chok District house that he resided in during his residency has been preserved as a museum.

Nakhon Phanom was and still is a strategic location on journeys between Thailand, Laos and Vietnam. It faces across the Mekong River to the Lao town of Thakhek. From here it is little more than 100kms to the Vietnamese frontier and the checkpoint at Nam Phao.

12GO Asia provides convenient, online ticketing services for transport to all the key destination in Thailand and its neighbours. Bangkok to Nakhon Phanom and other nearby locations like Mukdahan are among the choices.
