Cambodia to woo Asian visitors with three year visas

Cambodia’s tourism minister has announced a major change to visa options for visitors from select Asian nations. Under the amendment due to come into effect later in 2016, citizens of China, Japan and South Korea will be able to apply for three-year multiple entry visas.

Tourism-minister Thong Khon stated that the new visa option for people from these countries would be an added incentive for them to choose holidays in Cambodia. He continued by saying the trio of nations were the biggest markets for tourism outside Southeast Asia and it made sense to encourage repeat visits.

The three-year visas will allow up to 30-day stays in Cambodia on each entry before the holder has to apply for an extension or leave. The tourism ministry says there will be no restrictions on the number of entries during the validity of the visas.

According to official tourism bureau figures for 2015, 700,000 Chinese nationals visited Cambodia. The number of South Koreans was just shy of 400,000 while a little over 190,000 Japanese tourists visited. The number of Chinese tourists rose by a quarter compared to the previous 12 months, but arrivals from the other two countries were lower.
