Access facilities upgraded for Suvarnabhumi Airport Rail Link stations

Thailand’s SRT Electrified Train company has added lifts to stations on the Airport Rail Link between Suvarnabhumi Airport and Phaya Thai. The State Railway of Thailand subsidiary has installed two lifts at the six stations on the elevated railway line.

A spokesperson noted that the lifts provided that little extra convenience for passengers with big bags as well as for those who were less physically fit or with disabilities. The lifts are even equipped with signs in Braille for passengers with sight impairments.

Although designed specifically for passengers travelling to and from the main air gateway to Bangkok and Thailand, the principal means of accessing most of the Airport Rail Link stations was via escalators. These were not ideally suited to oversize bags and, before the lifts were installed, many travellers found it easier to take taxis when heading into central Bangkok.

The Airport Rail Link has interchange stations at Makkasan for underground trains and at Phaya Thai for the BTS Skytrain. These latter routes provide access to Ekkamai Bus Terminal and Hualamphong Railway Station.
