The agreement stipulates that if the cost of diesel climbs over the THB21 a litre mark fares rise accordingly. Fares for journeys on Chao Phraya ferries depend on the particular category of the vessel and the route it plies.
Following the rise, green flag ferry fares are now between THB10 and THB31 and are dictated by the number of stops travelled. Yellow flag routes range between THB19 and TB29 while orange ones are THB14. Routes classed as local are now THB8 TO THB12.
The proprietor of the firm which operates canal ferry services on Khlong Saen Saep stated that fares will go up today. Family Transport Company boss Chaowalit Methayaprapas said fares are being hiked for the same reason and reflected the increase in operational costs caused by the soaring cost of diesel.
