Boss of north Thailand national park asks visitors to be clean

The boss of Thailand’s Nam Nao National Park has issued a plea to visitors asking them to respect the natural environment and not leave litter. Uthai Chansuk said the increasing popularity of the park among tourists might lead to problems with waste disposal which in turn could impact on wildlife.

He noted that animals or the estimated 100 species of birds in the park could eat waste that had not been disposed of properly. Another potential issue might be pollution damage to trees and plants.

Mr Chansuk urged visitors to bag up any waste or rubbish and take it away with them when they left. He added that another option was to leave the waste bags at checkpoints so that forest rangers could ensure they were disposed of properly.

Nam Nao is in northern Thailand and straddles the borders of Phetchabun and Chaiyapoum provinces. It covers an area of 240,000 acres and is noted for its natural beauty with unspoilt forest and mountain vistas the highlights.

Phetchabun and Lom Sak are the nearest towns of any size to the park. 12GO ASIA sells tickets to Phetchabun and also for cross-country services which pass the main entry roads for Nam Nao.
