Thailand ranked in top seven best locations to retire to

A report issued by the UK’s BBC claims Thailand is one of the seven best countries in the world for retirees to live in. The corporation’s Rob Budden authored the report and noted that the Southeast Asian nation’s nickname was Land of Smiles and it certainly lived up to its reputation.

He explained that the cost of living in Thailand was low and that its tropical climate gave the maximum amount of sunshine every day. According to International Living, people dining on local food such as meat and rice or noodle soup can do so for less than £1 (THB53) a time.

Mr Budden said other bonuses to entice overseas retirees to settle here included a culture that honoured older people, hassle-free visas and the fact that no tax was applicable to income derived from foreign pensions. Another attraction is lower than average prices for property, although foreign nationals are only able to buy condominium units.

The other six countries on Mr Budden’s list were Thailand’s neighbour, Malaysia, plus Panama, Ecuador, Spain, Portugal and Malta. Thailand also wins out on travel costs as tickets for buses, trains and aeroplanes are cheaper than in the west. 12GO ASIA provides the same convenience when buying tickets that online reservations agencies in the west do.
