Fireworks mark end of three day Pattaya countdown party

The Thai eastern seaside town of Pattaya ushered in 2016 with an amazing fireworks extravaganza earlier today. At the midnight hour, the sky over Pattaya Bay was brilliantly illuminated as fireworks of all the colours of the rainbow exploded.

The display was the culmination of a three-day event which began on Tuesday at an official ceremony presided over by the town’s mayor. Despite the fact tens of thousands of revellers crowded into the areas around Pattaya Beach Road, Walking Street and the Bali Hai port zone last night, police said there were only a couple of minor incidents which were easily resolved.

They attributed the lack of trouble to a larger police presence than in previous years as the whole world was on alert for possible terrorist attacks. The party continued into the small hours and was described by attendees as convivial and fun.

Roads between Bangkok and Pattaya were busy yesterday afternoon and through until the early evening. More than a couple of drivers noted that at one point the motorways were more like giant car parks than main thoroughfares.

Tourist authorities in Pattaya say many of the New Year partygoers will remain until Sunday and that roads and public transport then will be chock-a-block. To beat the rush, we suggest pre-booking your transport with 12GO ASIA.
