Thai train runs into man sleeping beside track

A train heading through rural Thailand was brought to an abrupt standstill on Monday morning when the driver was forced to make an emergency stop. The driver of Number 425 stated that as he was approaching Chakkarat Station the train’s guardrail clipped a man sleeping beside the track.

The man, who has since been named as Adul Thong-oon, was smacked on the head by the metal framework. According to the Bangkok Post, paramedics who attended the accident and gave first-aid described the injury as serious. The unconscious man was first dispatched to a local hospital before being moved to Maharat Hospital in Nakhon Ratchasima.

Police investigator Anuroot Sangto said he had asked the hospital to test the blood of the victim for drugs and alcohol. He told reporters that initial investigations had so far not revealed why the man had decided to lie down beside a mainline railway track for a sleep.

Train 425 is an early morning local service for the eastern Thai town of Ubon Ratchathani. 12GO offers convenience when buying seats and sleeping berths for travel on trains plying the main routes in Thailand.
