Extra Bangkok Skytrains laid on for New Year’s Eve

The operator of Bangkok’s elevated urban trains has announced services will run until 02:00 on New Year’s Day. Bangkok Mass Transit System (BTS) director Surapong Laoha-unya said the after-midnight services would allow revellers more time to get home from New Year’s Eve parties.

The director also said a one-day travel card would be available to travellers on New Year’s Eve. The card gives unlimited travel across the two BTS Skytrain lines and is priced at THB140. Mr Laoha-unya noted that the card was a cost-effective option for those travelling to multiple locations to enjoy the fun.

The Skytrain’s two current lines are the Sukhumvit and the Silom. They both run through central Bangkok and have an interchange station at Siam Square. The Sukhumvit Line’s two terminus stations are Mo Chit and Bearing while Silom runs from Pathum Wan National Stadium to Bang Wa.

New Year’s Eve in Bangkok’s presents residents and tourists with plenty of places to celebrate. Pub parties, gala dinners and Chao Phraya River cruises are among options. Hundreds of thousands of people usually attend the Countdown Party staged every year outside CentralWorld Mall.
