Thai tuktuk dress wins Miss Universe costume category

A dress designed to resemble Thailand’s ubiquitous tuktuk won the best costume award at yesterday’s Miss Universe 2015 Pageant. Thailand’s representative at the Los Angles awards, Aniporn Chalermburanawong, wore a minidress complete with imitation handlebars and the front of one of the vehicles strapped to her back.

The 21-year-old Lampang beauty perfectly complemented the unique outfit with a metal choker in place of a necklace. In addition to garnering top place in the national costume genre, Ms Chalermburanawong managed a top 10 place in the main finals but was eliminated in the final round of voting for the last five.

The tuktuk dress was designed by Thai Culture Ministry worker Hirankrit Pattaraboriboonkul. He won a contest which saw more than 350 entries with the peerless masterpiece which employed the finest 3D technology.

Tuktuks are three-wheeled taxis similar to India’s auto-rickshaws. They are found in most major Thai cities and towns. Taking a ride in one is usually high on the to-do lists of visiting foreign tourists.

Tuktuk drivers often wait at intercity train and bus stations for arriving passengers. 12GO ASIA provides the most convenient means of getting to these stations with bespoke ticketing services.
