Bang Saen stages Thai version of Monaco Grand Prix

The Thai beach resort of Bang Saen is the venue for the country’s own inimitable version of the Monaco Grand Prix this week. The ninth Bang Saen Speed Festival began earlier in the week and has seen the likes of Porsche 991s vying for pole position on the 3,700-metre-long city circuit.

Part of the circuit route follows the resort’s Beach Road promenade before looping back through the streets of the town. The final heats of the racing are scheduled for the weekend. Local youths usually stage a car and bike rally on the Saturday evening.

As well as supercar racing, there have been parades featuring big bikes and classic cars. Many of the resort’s guest houses and bungalow resorts are located alongside the race route and guests are never far from the action. Accommodation is usually at a premium during race week and those without pre-booked rooms might find it easier to enjoy the fun as part of a daytrip.

Bang Saen is approximately 100kms from Bangkok by road. Frequent buses run between the two, although many of them start or end their journeys in nearby Pattaya. 12GO ASIA can provide you with bus tickets for the journey. We also offer big bike rentals from Bangkok for those who prefer to go it alone.
