Thailand lays red out red carpet for milestone tourist

Thailand laid on a special welcoming ceremony for the 25 millionth foreign tourist to arrive in the country this year. Leading officials from Thailand’s tourism related agencies were on hand to welcome Scot Ian Mcculloch as he walked into the Arrivals hall at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok earlier this week.

Mr Mcculloch received two round-trip economy class air tickets for use within the following 12 months and a hotel voucher for five nights at an in-country luxury hotel. He also got a lucky-visitor souvenir certificate and a mobile telephone complete with a seven-day internet package.

At the ceremony, Tourism Authority of Thailand chairman Kalin Sarasin said that on behalf of Thailand he was pleased to be welcoming 2015’s 25 millionth international visitor. He said the annual peak holiday season had only just begun and he was sure the figure would increase by a few million more before year’s end.

The chairman added that this milestone had already outdone the number of visitors for 2014. TAT figures show 24.36 million tourists arrived in the country during the year.
