Thai helps tourists buried in mudflats near Krabi beach

A good Samaritan has rescued a Norwegian couple buried up to their waists in mudflats in Krabi. Video footage of the rescuer turning himself into a human bridge so the couple could get to higher ground went viral over the weekend.

An amateur photographer shot the video of the rescuer, who has since been identified as Chat Ubonchinda, and uploaded it to Facebook. Millions of netizens have since watched Mr Ubonchinda’s selfless actions.

Mr Ubonchinda told local reporters he was a building worker but was returning from a fishing expedition when he spotted the two tourists stranded in the mud. At first he tried to pull them out. When this proved impossible he took their cameras and photography equipment to a safe place.

After this he returned and lay on the mud. The two tourists then used his body to hoist themselves out from their slimy prison. The two as yet unnamed Norwegians said they had gone out on the mud to take photographs of seabirds.

Krabi is noted for its abundant animals and avian creatures and visitors might espy kingfishers, gulls, sea eagles and Brahminy kites from the shoreline. Getting to Krabi is easy when you choose 12GO ASIA for your bus or train tickets.
