The Chinese Special Administrative Region’s Security Bureau issued the red alert following the deaths of two of its citizens at the Erawan Shrine bomb blast in Bangkok on 17 August.
Red alerts advise against all but essential travel to Thailand. Red is the middle of the three possible levels and black is the highest. Black advises against all travel to the flagged nation.
The Security Bureau’s amber warning means people visiting Thailand need to be vigilant, stay away from big crowds and monitor local media for any change in circumstances. The bureau says it will carry on monitoring the situation in Thailand and amend travel warnings when deemed necessary.
The bureau says it will post all updates and changes to warning statuses on its webpage and in public media. Erawan Shrine is a popular attraction for Chinese visitors and as well as the two dead from Hong Kong another six people were injured.

The Hong Kong administration reduced its travel alert for Thailand from red to amber earlier this week. The downgrade means that residents of Hong Kong only need to be careful in public places when visiting Thailand and not avoid it altogether.
