Thailand Cambodia rebuild Aranyaprathet railway link

Work on restoring the Thai railway line from Aranyaprathet to the Cambodian border is due to be finished by the end of 2015. Prime-minister Prayut Chan-o-cha told a visiting delegation from Cambodia yesterday that work on the six kilometre stretch of track between the eastern town and the frontier at Ban Khlong Luek is progressing nicely.

Interior-minister Sar Keng headed up the visiting Cambodian party and he listened intently as general Chan-o-cha told him that Bangkok to Ho Chi Minh City trains were looking like a real possibility. For his part, Sar Keng said the reconstruction of track from Sisophon to Poipet is ongoing.

Poipet faces across the two nations’ common border to Aranyaprathet. The last train services connecting Bangkok, Aranyaprathet, Poipet and Sisophon ran in the 1970s. The services were suspended during the Civil War and the ensuing four-year rule of Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge.

General Chan-o-cha said the re-establishment of train services would benefit commerce, industry and tourism links between the two countries. 12GO ASIA can take care of your seat reservations for buses and trains to Aranyaprathet and other cities in this region of Southeast Asia.
