A Thai museum themed on transport through the ages

Thailand is home to a unique collection of museums. Among them, and in the far north, Chiang Saen is home to two facilities tracing the region’s history of opium production while Bangkok’s Siriraj Hospital hosts the Forensic Science Museum’s macabre exhibits.

The Jesada Technik Museum is a more run of the mill facility which houses an ever-expanding collection of vehicles and aircraft. The only mode of transportation not represented in the 500-plus exhibits at present is rail. The collection runs the whole gamut from hand-pulled and cycle rickshaws to London Routemaster buses.

Quirky vehicles include a Reliant pickup truck and a Messerschmitt KR200 bubble-car. In the two-wheeled collection, an Achilles scooter is a tribute to the aesthetic beauty of the mid-20th century while a motorised monowheel is an honorary member. A decommissioned Royal Thai Air Force G-222 is one of several aircraft at the museum.

The museum evolved from the personal collections of philanthropist Jesada Dejsakulrit and is located in Nakhon Phatom. It first opened to the public in early 2007. Nowadays, the museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday between 09:00 and 17:00. Buying tickets for land transport in Thailand is easiest when you choose 12GO ASIA.
