A voyage through time in the temple ruins at Si Satchanalai

The majestic remains of the temples at Si Satchanalai are a lasting tribute to the construction technology of the artisans of the ancient Thai kingdom of Sukhothai. Wat Chang Lom and other well-preserved temples, statues of Buddha and palaces are up to 800 years old.

Si Satchanalai Historic Park is now a part of a UNESCO listed World Heritage Site which also includes Sukhothai and Kamphaengphet. Si Satchanalai is slightly more than 80kms north of Sukhothai. Buses run between the two at 30 minute intervals during the daytime and the distance is short enough to see Si Satchanalai on a daytrip.

There are a couple of guest houses for people wishing to explore Si Satchanalai before heading down to Sukhothai. Sawankhalok is a railway station a short distance from Si Satchanalai. It is the terminus of a branch line from Phitsanulok. There is one direct train a day which travels all the way up from Bangkok to Si Satchanalai and calls at Phitsanulok en route.

People arriving in Si Satchanalai don’t have to worry about getting around as there are bicycles for hire at very economical daily rates. 12GO Asia can take care of all your tickets for land travel to this interesting region of Thailand.
