If the service comes to fruition, it will go from Thailand’s eastern town of Nakhon Phanom and across the Mekong River via Friendship Bridge III to the town of Thakhek in Laos. From there it will traverse central Laos’s Khammouane Province and cross into Vietnam’s State of Ha Tinh.
Mr Karunyavanich said the Thai Transport Company had been concentrating on launching international bus routes to neighbouring nations for the past few years. He noted that the company currently operated a total of 14 such services to destinations that included the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh plus Vang Vieng and Luang Prabang in Laos.
The president finished off by adding that a service to Vietnam could be the company’s first tri-country bus route, but it was up to Thailand’s Land Transport Department to formally agree a memorandum of understanding. Arkhom Termpittayapaisith, the country’s junior transport minister, said this could take place before the end of the month.

The president of Thailand’s national bus company says an international service to Laos and Vietnam is in the pipeline. Noppharat Karunyavanich said Thai government officials were holding talks with their counterparts on establishing the tri-country route.
