The cheap way of accessing the amazing beaches of Krabi

The fabulous beaches at Ao Nang, Koh Lanta and Koh Phi Phi are just an overnight bus journey from Bangkok. The journey from Bangkok’s Southern Bus Terminal to the main bus station in Krabi only takes a little over 10 hours on a VIP service and 12 with a standard Class 1 air-conditioned bus.

Although many travellers see bus travel as an ordeal, it is actually pleasant. Opting to travel overnight also does away with all the hanging around and getting to and from airports that flying involves. Modern Thai intercity buses have onboard toilets. Legroom is usually ample enough for larger western tourists.

Those in doubt can always travel VIP as these coaches are configured with 24 passenger seats. A seat on a VIP bus is just over THB300 more than the standard THB677 fare for a Class 1 bus.

All air-conditioned buses on the Bangkok Krabi route offer hostess service, free soft drinks, snacks and face towels. Most stop somewhere en route for a light meal. The cost of this is included in the ticket price.

Travellers wishing to save themselves a journey to the bus station in Bangkok or Krabi can book travel tickets here.
