Porsche Carrera Cup racing returns to Thailand

The organisers of the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia racing championship have announced that the event will be returning to Thailand next month. Rounds seven and eight of the annual competition are set to be staged at Buriram’s Chang International Circuit between 31 July and 2 August.

Commenting on the press release, the manager of Porsche China Motorsport, Alexandre Gibot, said the team and drivers alike were thrilled to be coming back to Thailand after such a long absence. He added that it was a welcome addition to this year’s calendar and several Carrera drivers had already told him they were really looking forward to racing on a new circuit.

When the Porsche single-model races hit Thailand, New Zealand’s Chris van der Drift will be looking to increase his lead at the top of the drivers’ points table. Heats of the Porsche Carrera Cup were last held in Thailand a decade ago. The venue on that occasion was the Bira Circuit near Pattaya

Chang International Circuit complies with standards set by the International Automobile Federation and opened in 2014. It is 4.5kms long and was planned by famed German driver and track designer Hermann Tilke. It has already hosted a number of top racing events including the World Superbike Championships.
