Chinese firm books 13,000 staff on Thai holidays

In a testament to the burgeoning popularity of Thailand as a holiday destination, a Chinese firm has booked almost 13,000 of its staff on holidays here. Direct sales retailer Infinitus China booked the employees on their Thai trips as a productivity reward.

A Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) director, Chattan Kunjara Na Ayudhya, told reporters that the arrival of the visitors was being staggered slightly and about 2,000 were in each batch. The first batch of the total 12,700 Infinitus visitors arrived in Bangkok on 10 May and the last group is scheduled to depart this coming Saturday.

Tourists on the six-day travel odysseys are taking in the capital city’s key tourism sights before moving on to the eastern seaboard resort town of Pattaya. The TAT director said it was a challenge laying on transportation and banquets for thousands of people at one time, but everything seemed to be going according to plan.

He noted that it was the biggest single group of international visitors Thailand had ever hosted. The group does not only comprise Infinitus’s staff as there are some freelance salespeople and frequent customers in each group that has arrived so far.
