Cambodia garners another travel accolade

Tourism in the Southeast Asian nation of Cambodia has been given a boost as the country has just collected another travel industry award. The country bagged the number one spot in the category of Cultural and Heritage Destination at the World Travel Fair 2015 staged in Shanghai at the weekend.

Tourism bureau representatives from 50 countries attended the fair and set up stands detailing their respective tourism highlights and products. The Cambodian Ministry of Tourism’s director-general, Tith Chantha, said the award recognised factors such as the country’s environment, visitor security and hospitality.

He added that it was a testament to Cambodia’s unique draws and the measures taken to preserve them. He continued by saying that the recognition should entice even more Chinese tourists into visiting. The number of Chinese nationals visiting Cambodia increased by 20 per cent in 2014 when compared with the previous 12 months.

The Shanghai accolade comes straight after TripAdvisor honoured Cambodia’s best known attraction with top places in its 2015 annual awards. The Angkor Wat Temple ruins were the number one tourist destination in Asia and second in the global rankings for the same category.
