Cha-Am to stage inaugural cycle rally

The Thai national tourism bureau has scheduled a bicycle rally for early next month in the seaside resort of Cha-am. The event will comprise a series of cycle races from a central base at the Sirindhorn International Environmental Park near the town.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has collaborated with private tourism agencies in organising the Bangkok Bike Thailand Challenge 2015. Four trophies for the different classes are the main prizes and will be presented by HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.

The event is scheduled for Sunday 5 April and is a celebration of the princess’s 60th birthday three days beforehand. A percentage of the fees generated from entries and other activities at the rally will be donated to charities the princess is a patron of.

Last week, TAT officials paid a courtesy call on Thai prime-minister Prayut Chanocha at parliament to generate publicity for the cycle rally. To the delight of onlookers, the prime-minister later demonstrated his prowess on two wheels by pedalling a bicycle raised on a special stand in the grounds of government house.
