Agoda names Thai Isaan town as new hotspot

Leading global accommodation website Agoda has named a sleepy town in eastern Thailand as one of its burgeoning hotspots. For the past five years, Agoda has compiled a list of fresh destinations and the Isaan town of Buri Ram has made the grade for the 2015 edition.

Based on client reviews and their evaluations, Agoda releases a list of what it classifies as fresh Asian destinations. For the 2015 rankings, the website said it worked on the criteria of locations featuring less than 70 accommodation options which had seen a significant increase in reservations.

Agoda listed eight Asian destinations on the list, but did not rank them in any particular order. As well as Buri Ram, the destinations include Emei Mountain in China, Nepal’s Chitwan National Park and the Penghu Islands off the coast of Taiwan.

Buri Ram has also been selected by the Tourism Authority of Thailand as an unmissable destination. The town and its environs are noted for ancient Khmer temples such as Phanom Rung, Prasat Hin Mueang Tam and Prasat Wat Khok Ngio.
