Kuantan Things to Do

Time to get busy! If you are limited in time, visit the turtle sanctuary in Kuantan. Hiking and river cruises are also worth considering and won’t take much time.

Cruise on the River Kuantan

The Kuantan river cruise is one of the best ways to immerse yourself in the moment and cultural context without having to do anything at all. Float lazily down the river as eagles soar overhead, relish the natural surrounds and take in the knowledge of your guide.

Have some beach time

A beach or two is certainly not out of the question. Teluk Cempedak is a very popular beach among tourists. It is the Boracay or Camps Bay Beach of Kuantan. The activity of thrill seekers and water babies disturbs the clean line of the horizon, but the sounds of laughter and squeals of joy make it more manageable to the sun tanning beach goer.

Restaurants, food stalls and palm trees line the beach while bodies are frequently scattered over the glistening sand. Companies offering the thrilling activities are never too far away and can be sourced via a short walk down the beach strip.

A simple sunrise at Cherating beach is not a bad way to start the day. Or, if you’re of the more nocturnal disposition, not a bad way to end the night! The beach is simple, long, and quiet. The beach is perfect for relaxing picnics with significant others, or intimate family time away from the bustle.

Have some fun at Taman Gelora

Sporty folk! Get out your phone and save the location of a place called Taman Gelora. This beautiful park, just 3km from Kuantan, is a great location to keep up your levels of activity while on holiday. Aerobic dance classes, tennis courts and beach volleyball courts all await you and your gym shorts. Photographers may be equally interested in the rare opportunity to snap a shot of the seasonal lotus flowers that call the park their home.

Go river rafting

The adventurous and thrill seeking traveller will be pleased to know that river rafting may just be on the cards. While there is not a lot in the way of information or booking facilities online, there is potential for a very rustic and authentic rafting experience. Available to all levels of ability and nerve, the trip is a great way to spend a few hours with eyes wide open and hair so wet. Get in contact with the hotels in the area to arrange a tour.

Hiking

The hike to, and experience of the actual final waterfall of Berkelah Falls is worth every drop of sweat, moment of discomfort or money spent to get there. The final tier is over 50 meters high, thrashing down the exposed rock in an enchanting yet intimidating manner.

The Berkelah Park is has several campsites for camping too, which sounds like a great way to spend an afternoon and evening. Entrance to the park is absolutely free and transport to its gates will cause even the most unfamiliar of travellers no trouble at all.

Turtle encounters

The Cherating Turtle Sanctuary is a brilliantly run organization that every day goes to war for the little guys we know and love. Entrance to the sanctuary is free, but they value donations – so please give what you can. The sanctuary runs public education workshops, does a lot of research, and performs many actions with far reaching consequences for the turtles they protect. The sanctuary has ponds for babies and for turtles being rehabilitated. Get up close and personal with some of nature’s most graceful and fragile creatures. The sanctuary is open from 9.00 am to around 5.00 pm Tuesday to Sunday.
