Vang Vieng Hotels, Guesthouses and Resorts

Because Vang Vieng is so small, everything in town is fairly close to each other. Most of the accommodation in Vang Vieng is centrally located on the eastern side of the river, close to the bus stop, restaurants and tour agencies in town.

If you’re looking for more peace and quiet in order to best enjoy the natural beauty of Vang Vieng’s surrounding areas, there are also guesthouses and boutique hotels that are located a bit further away from the central bar/accommodation area, or on the western side of the river.

With so many budget backpackers flocking to Vang Vieng in years past, it’s safe to say that budget accommodations are easy to come by here – whether you’re looking for a private room in a quiet guesthouse or a dorm room in a social hostel, there are plenty of cheap options for accommodation in Vang Vieng. If you’ve got a bigger budget and you’re looking for something a little more high-end, you’ll find places that cater to those tastes, as well.

Booking ahead is not usually necessary, as it’s generally easy to show up and find rooms available on the spot—and with new business and guesthouses opening all the time as tourism continues to grow in Vang Vieng, once you’re there in person you may find a gem of a spot that doesn’t have much of an online presence yet. However, if you’d like to have a better idea of some of the specific accommodation options available to you in Vang Vieng, here are a few examples of some of the most popular budget, midrange, and luxury spots in Vang Vieng.

Prices in this article have been quoted in kip (LAK), but when booking the more expensive hotels, you’ll often see the prices in USD. Some of the prices you’ll see here are estimates based on conversion rates between the two currencies; all prices are subject to change, of course.

Budget

Central Backpackers (40,000 LAK for a dorm bed, private rooms are also available) — This is one of the most popular backpacking hostels in Vang Vieng, with clean rooms and a strong social vibe. It’s close to the bus station and just down the street from the popular Sakura bar.

Pan’s Place (30,000 LAK for a dorm bed, private rooms are also available) — Another really popular hostel with the backpacking crowd due to its social, relaxed environment. The rooms are clean and simple; the main draw here is the friendly atmosphere among travellers.

Fat Monkey Hostel (40,000 LAK for a dorm bed, private rooms are also available) — This hostel is relatively new, with clean, basic dorm beds. It’s located near Sakura bar, so it’s right in the heart of the party atmosphere in Vang Vieng.

Mid-range

Elephant Crossing Hotel (375,000-400,000 LAK for a private double room) — The rooms here aren’t particularly “fancy,” but they’re certainly a bit nicer and more luxurious than your typical budget accommodations. The rooms have TV, air conditioning, wifi, etc. The best part about this hotel is its location right on the river, giving travellers a beautiful riverside view from their rooms.

Villa Vang Vieng Riverside (400,000 LAK for a private double room) — These bungalows are located near the toll bridge south of town. One of the best features of this hotel/restort is the pool/lounging area.

Top end

Riverside Boutique Resort (1-2 million LAK for a private double room) — Located on the south end of town down by the toll bridge, this hotel is one of the fanciest spots in town that caters to the new breed of tourists who are more responsible and sedate than the wild, hedonistic backpackers that Vang Vieng became so famous for.

These are just a few popular spots to give you an idea of the type of accommodation available to you in the various price ranges.
