Oudomxai Hotels. Guesthouses and Resorts

Most travellers who come through Oudomxai don't stay long as they're usually using the place as a transport hub to jump off to other places around Laos and out of it. If you do find yourself in town for more than a day, you’ll have plenty of decent accommodation options available to you at totally affordable prices (you can expect to pay around LAK50,000-LAK100,000 for basic rooms in town).

You won't find a lot of luxury hotel options; most of the guesthouses are simple, no-frills budget-style accommodations. Most guesthouses and hotels are located around the main road, making it easy to find a spot to stay but occasionally difficult to sleep due to road noise.

Budget

Litthavixay Guesthouse is one of the best budget options in town in terms of quality relative to price. The wifi is fast, the rooms are spacious and clean, and the bathrooms have hot showers – how can you go room? Double rooms with a fan will cost you LAK70,000 while air conditioned rooms run about LAK90,000. The staff at the guesthouse are friendly and helpful, and you can conveniently book flight tickets for Lao Airlines directly through the guesthouse. It's a bright green building near the centre of town.

Phanmixay Guesthouse is another good budget option, with basic double rooms around LAK50,000 or less. With its location near the bus station, this is a great place to stay if you're just passing through and not so interested in doing things out and about around the city. The rooms are basic but clean, with hot water in the showers.

Only a hundred meters away from the old bus station, Surinphone Hotel is also only about 5 minutes walk from the city centre –so it's a perfect choice if you'd like something in easy walking distance of the bus station but you'd still like to be able to explore the town a bit. The air conditioned double rooms cost LAK80,000, and while the building is old, everything is clean and well-maintained, making it a great option for the price and location.

Mid-Range

For those who are looking for something a bit nicer than the average budget accommodations but still trying to stay in a spot that's not too pricy, Villa Keoseumsack is a good option. The double rooms with air conditioning cost LAK160,000, and because it's set a bit back from the main road, it makes things a little quieter. The rooms are clean, the bathrooms are a bit larger than average in cheap Lao accommodations, and the beds and sheets are a bit higher quality than some other places.

Top End

If you’d really like to go upscale (well, upscale Oudomxai-style), Charming Lao Hotel is probably your best bet, with many travellers saying that it's the nicest accommodation in Oudomxai. The rooms are carpeted, with a flat screen TV, fast wifi, a fridge, and above-average beds and bathrooms. It's a place with a tasteful, modern feel, but with prices around LAK400,000 per room, it's definitely not the spot to go for the budget backpacker. Sinouk Cafe is located in this hotel, a lovely little spot where you can get breakfast (included with the price of your room) or other meals.

These are just a few options to give you an idea of what to expect when looking for accommodation in Oudomxai; always be sure to check booking websites or at the guesthouses themselves to ensure what the prices will be at each location. Looking around the town is a good way to find cheap places to stay that might not always be listed online, or searching on a booking website can turn up good deals and other places not mentioned here.
