Champasak Hotels, Guesthouses and Resorts

Many people traveling to Champasak come from Pakse for a day trip, get in a tour of Wat Phu and perhaps bike around the area a bit before heading back to their accommodations in Pakse for the night.

However, if you'd like to stay in Champasak overnight and get a little more time in here, that is totally a possibility. Due to its small size, accommodation options in Champasak are fairly limited. There is one main road, running parallel to the Mekong River that essentially makes up the majority of the town.

Most of the accommodations in Champasak lie along this road. Your options are in general simple, basic guesthouses and hotels; you won’t be finding party hostels or many swanky hotels in Champasak. Some travellers feel that the prices in Champasak are not particularly an excellent value compared to some other places in Laos, but there are still plenty of budget-friendly options.

Budget

Khamphuoy Guesthouse is one of the best options in the budget range of guesthouses, with a fan room costing about LAK50,000 (an air-conditioned room is about LAK100,000). For being some of the cheapest prices in town, the rooms are clean and adequately furnished, although you won’t be finding a lot of extra luxuries here. If you're looking for good accommodation at affordable prices, Khamphuoy is one of the best bets, and also one of the most popular spots with the backpackers who do venture into Champasak for an overnight stay.

Champasak With Love is another budget guesthouse with rooms that cost LAK50,000 per night, but with shared bathrooms; Khamphuoy rooms have private bathrooms for the same price. In general, the rooms at Khamphuoy are all around a bit nicer for the value, but Champasak With Love has a certain “character” to it that some travellers will find appealing, even charming. The building is old, wooden, and a bit creaky, but the guesthouse has a shaded deck with beautiful riverside views—nothing fancy, but it’s cheap and unique.

One more great guesthouse in Champasak is Nakorn Guesthouse, which was just opened near the end of 2016. There is also a popular restaurant attached to Nakorn Guesthouse. There are only 6 rooms in the guesthouse, and these cost about LAK200,000. With riverside views and bright, new rooms, Nakorn Guesthouse is a great place to stay if you’d like something a little nicer than the typical budget backpacker accommodations, but don't want to shell out a lot of money for your stay.

Mid-Range

Inthira Champasak is an excellent guesthouse that is a great option for travellers looking for a bit of luxury but unwilling to spend the money for a place like the River Resort (see below). Their rooms range from about LAK400,00-LAK600,000. The most expensive rooms offer air conditioning, a large TV, and an included breakfast in the attached restaurant.

Top End

If you're looking for something a bit more luxurious and not afraid to spend the extra money, then the River Resort is one of Champasak’s best options. The rooms cost around LAK800,00-LAK1,000,000, depending on whether you book superior or deluxe, ground floor or upper floor. Most of the guests who stay here are part of tour groups coming through to see Wat Phu, although it's certainly suitable for travellers just looking for luxury accommodations. The rooms have air conditioning, wifi, and large bathrooms, but the real appeal here is the beautiful view of the Mekong River, the infinity swimming pools, and other luxuries on site (such as massage treatments).

Outside Champasak town

Travelers who would like to feel very remote may choose to stay on Don Daeng island; La Folie Resort is the only formal accommodation option here, with high prices similar to those at the River Resort.

Homestays are also an option on Don Daeng.
