Places to Eat in Siargao

Unabashedly matching its reputation of the “Surfing Capital” of the Philippines, Siargao's culinary scene is just as vibrant as the surfers that flock the island year round. Whether you prefer humble meals or those fancy fusion dishes whipped up by an overly enthusiastic chef, you will find everything here.

Traditional Food

Well, maybe not everything. In a sea of European, American, and Mediterranean restaurants, it was difficult to find a place that serves purely Filipino cuisine. Perhaps this is owing to the fact that most establishments are co-owned by expats. We did, however, find two restaurants that can cater to our craving for local dishes.

Serving tasty and affordable barbecue meals, Mama’s Grill (General Luna) is just the place we needed. It's definitely the cheapest food joint in the island so expect it to be crowded especially during dinnertime. We loved their grilled pork and chicken barbecue which are best paired with beer. It may not be ice cold though. Expect to spend between PHP150 to PHP200 per person and expect a long queue so make sure to come early.

Harana Surf Resort Restaurant (Tuason Point Dapa-Gen.Luna Rd.) is where you can chill out and eat to your heart's content. It has a beach vibe going on with native accents, low tables, and giant beanbags to sit on. As for their menu, stand outs for us were definitely their sinigang (Filipino sour soup), sisig (pig's head and liver), lechon kawali (boiled and deep fried pork belly), and ceviche. While waiting for your food to be served you can play games or just take advantage of their free WiFi.

Western and International Food

The pizza over at Kermit Surf Resort (5 Brgy, General Luna) possibly rivals the fame of Cloud 9 as everyone cannot seem to stop talking about it. We finally decided to check it out and we can say it's a well-deserved recognition. If you're a picky eater and a health nut, you cannot miss this place when you are in Siargao. You can make your own pizza by choosing your own topping and you can customize your smoothie too! It's almost always packed so we recommend booking a table. If you're not into the surfer vibe which can be overwhelming at times, better go here during lunch instead of dinner.

Miguel's Taqueria Y Cerveceria (Market Rd, General Luna) is the perfect hangout after a long day of surfing. They serve the best tacos on the island at an unbelievably low price. For PHP100 you get a choice of chicken or beef burrito or 2 pieces of tacos (beef, chicken, or fish). We had the fish tacos and it was awesome. The fresh tuna with the spicy sauce is a must try!

Cafes and Coffee Houses

The Pleasure Point Café (Purok 5, General Luna) is pretty much where you can find us each morning when we were in Siargao. They serve really good coffee and their breakfast options are really filling and delicious. Our favourite is definitely their mango pancakes with honey as well as their bacon and egg crepes. We usually lounge around for a long time enjoying their laid-back atmosphere and free WiFi.

We also frequented Fili Beans Espresso Restaurant (Dapa-Gen.Luna Rd.) for two things: coffee and cocktails. Hands down, they serve the best coffee in the entire island. We tried different types of coffee and were never disappointed. We do especially remember the cappuccino and iced latte. Here's hoping you're there on a Thursday so you can try their espresso martini, it's what people are raving about these days!
