Pathein Myanmar – Best Places to Eat

Pathein is not particularly well known for its food. It’s true you won’t go hungry here but you are unlikely to eat some of the best food in Myanmar on a trip here.

Street Food

If you are on a budget or just want to try something a little more authentic then consider walking down to the riverfront. Here you will find a wealth of delicious street food stalls which sell traditional Burmese snacks such as grilled meats like chicken wings and some fried noodle dishes and other delicacies. This is certainly the cheapest spot in town to grab a few bites as the sun goes down and recommended if you want to sample the local flavours.

Breakfast Spots

If your guesthouse doesn’t offer breakfast then a good choice is Me Mf Lay which is close to the Taan Taan Ta Guesthouse and serves up a nice breakfast for around MMK 100-500 which makes it one of the best bargains in town.

It is also next to a local bakery so if you prefer you can stop off there and pick up some pastries.

Local Food

If you are looking for main meals then consider restaurants such as Super Cool which is on the corner of Merchant Street and Pathein Road. There is an English menu available although the restaurant mostly serves basic curries and noodle dishes. One of the best things about Super Cool is that you can get cold beer here which you can enjoy as the sun sets on Pathein. Expect main meals to cost around MMK 3,000.

Another restaurant similar to Super Cool is called Top Star which focuses on fish and seafood as well as some vegetarian meals and simple dishes of grilled meats. It is not the most upscale of cuisine but it is tasty enough and the staff is friendly.
