Monywa Myanmar – Best Value Hotels and Guesthouses
Myanmar generally doesn’t have a huge range of accommodation options, particularly for backpacker budgets, and Monywa is no exception. You will find a few solid options here in the mid-range bracket and a clutch of lower and higher end choices.
One thing you don’t have to worry about in Monywa is arriving in high season as its unlikely that all hotels will be booked out in advance so you can turn up without a reservation. This means that you can wait until you arrive in Monywa and explore the options in person.
Budget
One of the few budget choices in Monywa is the Shwe Taung Tam Guesthouse which is located on Yone Gyi Street and is a firm favourite with backpackers. It is rather run down but you can get single rooms from USD13 and doubles from USD20. Breakfast – as in most places in Myanmar – is included and it was one of the fanciest we came across in Myanmar: served on a big tray first come fruits of the season followed by another big tray with eggs, toasts and jam. As long as you don’t mind the slightly aged interior then Shwe Taung Tam Guesthouse is a solid choice at a good price.
Mid-range
A popular option if you have a slightly larger budget is Hotel Chindwin which is on Bogyoke and you will get quite a lot more for your money than some of the budget options. Rooms start at US25 and come with their own bathrooms and there is a delightful rooftop terrace where you can enjoy the signature Burmese breakfast.
Another mid range spot on Bogyoke is Monywa Hotel which is a regular stop-off for tour groups. It offers rooms from USD35 per night with ensuite bathrooms and air conditioning. One thing to note is that it is a little further away from the centre of town than other choices although a tuk-tuk ride will only set you back about USD1.
Top end
If you are not on a budget and you want something a little more luxurious in Monywa then the Win Unity Resort has a pool and an onsite gym. They have a range of rooms and even suites here and there are little chalets that all face a traditional Burmese sculpted garden. Rooms start from USD45 and chalets are USD75 per night. This hotel also serves up the best buffet breakfast in Monywa so if you feel like splurging then this is certainly one of the best, if not the only, spot in town.
