Seminyak Bali – 10 Best Places to Stay in All Price Ranges

A swanky beachside resort with all the trimmings, Seminyak’s sand peppered with volcanic rock is lined with a world of accommodation choices for the big spenders and those wanting to splash out for the utmost in luxury and decadence. Many of the hotels and villas in Seminyak are well-located and within easy walking distance to leading fashion houses, upmarket restaurants and see-and-be-seen bars. For those with a more modest budget, a simple bed is still possible but will most likely come without a view. Those with tighter purse strings may want to consider staying in a mid-range resort during low-season so as to save money without scrimping on comfort and amenities. Below is a list of our personal favourite accommodations in the area arranged by budget, mid-range and upmarket.

Budget accommodation in Seminyak (under IDR 400,000)

1. Seminyak Point Guest House

Nestled in the heart of Seminyak and just a ten minute meander to the beach lies Seminyak Point Guest House. Engulfed by a lush, green garden this clean and comfortable guest house boasts a swimming pool, private hot-water bathrooms, cable TV and even a private balcony. With the additions of Wi-Fi, an airport shuttle service, an on site spa and wellness centre, and even the option of an Asian or American breakfast (an additional IDR 50,000), this spot is a gem for budget travellers and we were more than satisfied with our stay here. The balcony overlooking the pool was an especially nice touch and is the ideal spot to sip a drink after a day of exploring. A standard double room will set you back around IDR 260, 000 for a night.

2. Beji Ayu Homestay

With staff as warm, welcoming and as willing to bend over backwards as they were at Beji Ayu Homestay its very difficult to find fault with anything at all. In fact we’d probably go as far as saying that this might be the best budget accommodation that we’ve stayed at in awhile. The homestay is tastefully furnished, has a charming and authentic feel and comes with a host of amenities that usually fall by the wayside for those trying to penny save. Free Wi-Fi, hot showers, spacious bedrooms with a kettle and mini-fridge, bike rental, an outdoor terrace, air-con, a flat-screen TV; the list could go on and on. With nightly rates starting at IDR 180,000 this could very well be Seminyak’s backpacker’s jackpot.

3. Sunnyside Residence Seminyak

Beautifully manicured lawns dotted with palm trees set the scene for the wooden-decked swimming pool that beckons you as you explore the grounds. This property is excellently located and not only is the exterior lovely and inviting, but the warmly lit rooms are elegantly decorated too with stylish artworks adorning the walls, air-con, cable TV, a minibar, in-house massage treatments, Wi-Fi, and a 24-hour front desk. Bigger suites with a living area and family rooms are on offer too. Starting rates for a superior double room will cost IDR 225,000.

4. Grandma’s Plus Hotel Seminyak

Don’t let the name mislead you, there’s nothing frumpy and dowdy about this hotel. In fact the very opposite might be true! Featuring minimalistic interiors, modern grey-stoned walls covered with hanging plants, white wooden furniture and lush, green foliage; this boutique hotel is any Instagrammer’s delight. Not only are guests within easy walking distance to Seminyak’s colourful nightlife, beaches and scrumptious eateries, but the hotel itself offers an abundance of its own services too. We were bowled over by cultural classes on offer and actually ended up extending our stay as a result of wanting to try them all. From cocktail classes, yoga classes, canang sari (small woven basket with fresh flowers and palm fronds) making classes, and painting classes; the list of cultural things to do at Grandma’s is a fascinating way to dip your toes into the beautiful Balinese culture. All this and a spa and wellness centre made Grandma’s a truly unforgettable experience. Rates range between IDR 350,000 and IDR 420,000 and are worth every penny.

Mid-range accommodation in Seminyak (IDR 400,000 – IDR 1,000,000)

5. Brown Feather

This lovely wooden property with its colourful plant boxes on the windowsills, spills over with a rustic charm that would not be out of place in a European countryside. Nearby to plenty of restaurants and cafés, Brown Feather is furnished in a delightfully vintage style with mismatched furniture and trinkets that would not be out of place in your grandma’s house. The property is built in a U-shape that encases a lovely lap-pool with plenty of greenery cascading down the balconies. All in all the ambiance is one of peace, character and tranquillity. While the furnishings are of an antique style, there are still the necessary modern amenities such as air-con, flat-screen TVs, a minibar, hot-water showers, and even a beautiful copper bathtub in the one suite. Nightly rates begin at IDR 475,000.

6. Oallas Lifestyle Rooms

One of our all time favourite accommodations that we were lucky enough to spend a few nights at, Oallas Lifestyle Rooms is slightly out of central Semiyak on Jalan Umalas II. This cosy property boasts six suite-style rooms with private kitchenettes and a seating area all with the added bonus of a backyard that features a tree-fringed, bubbling stream. Massive trees and a beautiful pool in the garden will have you wanting to extend your time here even further. Air-con, Wi-Fi, walls covered in artworks, and homely textiles are just a few of Oallas’ highlights. Rates range between IDR 400,000 to IDR 1,000,000.

7. Aliya Boutique Hotel

A smattering of A-frame, open-style cottages that are constructed around a pool and shaded sun-loungers set the stage for tropical living at Aliya Boutique Hotel. The lush tropical garden, small balconies overlooking the pool, all-teak rooms, hot-water rainfall shower, and fresh white linen add to the tranquillity and natural harmony of the space. Rates are in the same price bracket as Oallas Lifestyle Rooms listed above and go from around IDR 400,000 to IDR 1,000,000.

8. Ananda Resort Seminyak

Green and serene are the words we’d use to describe our stay at Ananda Resort. That combined with the lovely staff, gorgeous pool and excellent on-site restaurant and bar; made our experience all the more memorable. Large, airy rooms flooded with sunlight and the close walking distance to the beach will ensure that you get your holiday dosage of Vitamin D. Rooms come standard with a balcony, a private bathroom, minibar, free Wi-Fi, cable TV, a kitchenette, dining area and a much welcomed coffee machine. A night in the Superior Bungalow will cost IDR 545,000.

High-end accommodation in Seminyak (upwards of IDR 2,500,000)

9. The Katamama

If we could live here permanently, we would. That being said, there’s something magical about vacations simply as a result of them being a reprieve from your everyday life and the temporary nature of the experience. The Katamama, with its fusion of contemporary design and timeless Indonesian traditions, is sure to transport you to another world entirely. With a gorgeous pool and the beach on your doorstep, the exceptional service of staff members, and the unbelievably luxurious and stylish attention to every detail, The Katamama caters to their guests’ every whim. Yoga classes, personal trainers, priority booking for the world-famous, Potato Head Beach Club, the exotic and decadent cocktail lounge, in-suite dining, and on-site restaurant are just a few of this hotels highlights. As expected, prices are rather steep and the cheapest suite will set you back IDR 4,900,000.

10. The Samaya

Luxury, decadence and indulgence are some of the top adjectives that any would use to describe their experience at The Samaya. With the plush interiors, unparalleled ocean views and first-class service, you cannot help but get a glimpse into what it must be like to be a rich and famous celebrity of the world. Further highlights include perfectly landscaped pools, a 24-hour butler service, a world-renowned spa and wellness centre, a number of dining options with the Pacific Ocean as your backdrop, free yoga classes and a fantastic location. This spot is perfect for travellers who are looking to splash out or for honey-mooners with generous budgets. All this however, comes at a price and the cheapest villa costs a whopping 8,500,000 for a night.
