Airports of Thailand says no plan to hike passenger departure fee

The president of the Airports of Thailand authority (AoT) told reporters last week passenger departure taxes would not be increased. Jintana Sirisamaporn confirmed the fees added to tickets for passengers departing from the six airports under the AoT’s jurisdiction would remain pegged for the time being.

The current fees of THB100 for domestic flights and THB700 for international ones were set in 2006. Passengers no longer pay the tax at their departure airports as it was incorporated into the price of tickets at around the same time.

The AoT president noted that any proposal to change the airport passenger service charges would have to be approved by the Civil Aviation Board of Thailand. The president scotched rumours of a hike by adding no application had even been submitted to the board.

12GO ASIA explains that the six facilities the AoT controls are Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport and Don Mueang Airport, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phuket and Hat Yai. The AoT is a public company. The Department of Airports is a state entity and operates the bulk of the nation’s remaining airports.
